Ways to use our vintage textiles

We are all spending more time at home and why not take a leap of faith in yourself and have some fun decorating. I love creating ambiances through out my home that remind me of places I visited, or lived and it is so much fun and gratifying.

I work from home and I like to sense that as I moved from one room to the other, I am in a different place all together. I have a little nook for my morning coffee, for readying, for praying and for a glass of wine by the fire place. Almost transporting myself to those beautiful countries and hotels I’ve stayed at and even more remembering precious people I have met.

Throughout my travels I have collected all type of items and it is what inspires my decor style at home. I moved to my new flat in 2019 decided to take a sabbatical year, and due to COVID-19 it turn into 2 years, what a blessing. So, I decided to take my time and decor my home utilizing and featuring our textiles and it inspired me to create new products as well. which I will share these along my decorating journey, these will be available to order in our home decor section.

  1. Upholster

I love our vintage textiles, one of them is the indigo handwoven 100% cotton (cortes) which mayan women use as skirts. I chose this beautiful and classic pattern to upholster 4 stools. When I first moved from my 1 bedroom to a 3 bedroom, didn’t have much seating so I decided to have fun with some fabric and gold paint, here is my final product. I love them! They are comfy stylish and they don’t take much space to storage; they are boho and a little rustic, yet they still look great with my contemporary furniture. Check out our textiles available for your next project.

2. Pillows

You can have unique pillow cases made, handwoven 100% cotton and embroider, or you can find them in our home decor section. These textiles can be use for pillow cases, trims for home accessories, and or clothing. I have few hüipils (shirts) that I like and use them in their original form and look fabulous with my leather pants or jeans with an oversize coat on top. Plus they are 100% cotton so they are warm. Every piece we offer in our website is handcrafted by micro-producers or artisans. We try to repurpose all textiles that already exists, we don’t mass produce and our bottom line is to empower you and our artisans.

Buy good quality and products that continue giving.

3. Art

I created a beautiful cross utilizing a gold plated paper form India and a vintage textile from Chichicastenango (Guatemala), a favorite pattern on mine for my study. This room is the most eclectic in my home; I use it to display my artwork and my collection of items from around the world. moody room in blues and berries with wood and brown leather chair. I must confess where I spend most of my time.

No matter what direction you decide to go, just have fun remember if you don’t like it no one has to see it. But remember art is not about what others think but the joy and pleasure you experience while creating it.
